Healthy Mouth= Healthy Body

More than just a showcase for your smile, your mouth is very important to your overall health. Current research shows an important correlation between gum and teeth health and overall health.

Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria that go unchecked and form a harmful biofilm in the deepening pockets of your gums. These bacteria can easily enter into the bloodstream from your gums, and create havoc everywhere in the body. This chronic infection triggers the liver to release C- reactive protein, which causes systemic inflammation linked to conditions like cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes, and pregnancy problems.

If you have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, we are able to treat it painlessly with a laser here, avoiding surgery in most cases.  A laser can help your gums in two basic ways. The first way is acting like a high intense “flashlight” in your gum pocket. This high powered light reduces bacterial colonies from billions down to hundreds in your pockets, allowing your immune system a better situation to fight off infection. The second way the laser can work is by initiating the laser tip to specifically focus on comfortably removing the infected gum tissue from the deeper gum pocket.

In addition to treating periodontal disease with a laser we can use a soft tissue laser to treat a variety of dental procedures.

  • We can use lasers to reduce an excessive "gummy smile"
  • Frenectomies (muscle pull release)
  • Biopsies
  • Canker sore relief
  • Cold sore relief

Vizilite Cancer Screening

We use Vizilite Plus to detect oral cancer. It helps us identify oral cancer lesions at their earliest stage of development. When cancer is detected in the early stages, treatment can be more than 90% successful. The exam involves rinsing your mouth out with a solution for one minute. Then, we examine your mouth with a special light. If there is a suspicious lesion detected, it will be marked with a blue dye. By utilizing the Vizilite system, we are able to identify suspicious lesions before they can be seen with the naked eye.
